[00:00:06] Viktoriia Miracle: Hello. Hello and welcome back to happy time happy money podcast. And today we have Morgan Owen. Morgan is founder Penny Finance is an expert in all things finance home, investment, business, commercial, personal. As well as investment strategy, business consulting and personal cashflow. She is a young, energetic, driven entrepreneur who challenges the status quo and finds it very hard to take no for an answer.
[00:00:39] Oh, and she loves train training of RuPaul's drag race, pinot noir and her girlfriend, April. Hi and welcome Morgan.
[00:00:51] Morgan Owen: Thanks for having me.
[00:00:53] Viktoriia Miracle: Absolutely, welcome to our podcast and I would love, and our audience love to know more about you. Does let's start with your story. What inspired you to do, how did you came here and everything that you would like to share?
[00:01:09] Morgan Owen: Yeah. Cool. Well, look, I've been in finance for a few years now. My journey's been an interesting one. You know, I, I've kind of always sat behind the scenes. I, I thought that I needed to sort of be the person to. You know, just drive what everyone else was doing and sort of pick up the pieces and just, yeah.
[00:01:27] Necessarily step behind the scenes. But about a year ago, my whole life kind of blew up. Everything that I thought I knew, just all of a sudden I woke up and I was like, what am I doing? This isn't my life. This isn't what I should be doing. This isn't what I was put on this earth to do. And so I left everything behind.
[00:01:46] And I started again literally from scratch and that's where Penny Finance came from because I was. So of really sick of the situation where I was being driven to do things other people's way and it just didn't sit with me. And I knew that I, I knew that I could really help people and I knew that I needed to do it my way.
[00:02:06] And the only way to do that was to do it on my own and just to sort of take that risk. And it was the risk that, you know, I, I think that a lot of people are terrified of, and I definitely was like, I was so scared of like, not having that income and that wage and being like, oh, like, you know, where's the money gonna come from?
[00:02:24] But at the end of the day, I knew I had it in me. I backed myself, I used all my savings and I poured it in and it was the best thing I ever did. Honestly, you know, it's nice to be able to sit here now and say that, you know, Okay. When, well, of course, but, you know, and I don't think I could have done it earlier.
[00:02:42] That's the other thing, I think that, you know, as much as, you know, you go through things in your life and I don't like to think that I have any regrets instead. It's more just lessons of, you know, I probably wouldn't do that again, but the fact that I did that meant that I could learn from that and means that I won't make those mistakes again.
[00:03:01] So here I am, and it's been a year now, helped run 150 clients in the last 12 months. Things are going exceptionally well, being able to grow the team. And yeah, I'm really, really happy.
[00:03:14] Viktoriia Miracle: That is awesome. So I hear that the lockdown so well for you, even though
[00:03:20] Morgan Owen: ironically yeah. Ironically, the I'm in Melbourne.
[00:03:23] So I think, I don't know can't even remember what we're up to lock down 417, I think. But anyway, yeah, we've pretty much been in lockdown the entire time, but for my business being a finance business, I can completely online. So all my clients, I, you know, just like what we're doing now, we can meet virtually and I don't need to be in the same room.
[00:03:43] So I've spent a lot of time at home. But then I also have an office now as well, because I also have a personal training studio with my pano, which was also a really interesting choice, given COVID fact that we've been closed, but we're making it work so all good.
[00:03:59] Viktoriia Miracle: Well, people want to look good anyway. Right? Anyway, you cannot just look good at like the top of your health and not good at the top of it, but is it going to work out anyway?
[00:04:13] I think if people called their will, you know, this funny picture pictures, when people look amazing and starting to like send up and just literally in the panties and it's
[00:04:23] Morgan Owen: really skip leg day.
[00:04:26] Yeah, no, I've always, you know, it's interesting. I was literally just having this conversation with a friend of mine just before about like, when you, you know, you put things out to the universe and then things start to happen. I've always sort of, you know, I've always very much been into my fitness and you know, like you say about, you know, your body and, you know, making sure that, you know, you're taking care of that and you're healthy, but then also with money too, you know, and because there's no point in having money and being wealthy.
[00:04:51] If you're really unhealthy and unhappy, you know, so all of those things, to me, it really important that they're all kind of working cohesively together. So yeah, like obviously a PT studio, a finance business, you know, fitness and finance has kind of always been something I wanted to figure out how to combine.
[00:05:09] I'm not that I'm combining them, obviously they're two different businesses, but they're two businesses that I'm very, very passionate about from a personal point of view.
[00:05:17] Viktoriia Miracle: So what would you recommend for whom I am that are not happy, like fight, you walked away from it. It is a big mindset shift, I guess.
[00:05:27] Like what was the shift that made you to just do all of those things and, you know, rock, rock, and roll.
[00:05:36] Morgan Owen: Oh, look, there was a lot of things. I, I was, I was turning 30 last year and I think that, you know, I'd always been someone who was like ticking boxes. You know, you, you do good at school. You get into uni, you, you know, you buy a house, you get married, you do all the things that you're supposed to do, you know?
[00:05:56] I thought those things would then make me happy. I thought those things would then be fulfilling and the trouble was, you know, not in that. I also had this business, you know, and I got to where I did at the start of last year and COVID happened. And so we're staring down the barrel of being locked at home and, and, you know, all that uncertainty that surrounded that.
[00:06:16] And I was like, I can't do this. I can't keep doing what I'm doing in pretending that it's all okay. And I think that that's what I was doing. I was literally in like autopilot mode, do you know? Because it's like, I had all the things I had, all the things that I was supposed to have. So you just supposed to be happy aren't you?
[00:06:34] But I wasn't, I really, really wasn't. And so then I just decided that something really, really had to change. And I just had to make that happen. I had to leave everything behind. I had to take the risk. I really didn't have any other choices. Obviously I tossed up, you know, going to, getting a job or working for someone else.
[00:06:52] And then everyone who knew me was like, Morgan, you will hate that with every single burn in your body. If you try that, you need to do this for yourself. You know, April was amazing for me at that time. She, you know, she was said to me, she's like, moment I'll work four jobs. I will do whatever we need so that you can start this.
[00:07:08] You know, she really believed in me and having that support behind me as well was, you know, something I hadn't really experienced. Like I'm someone who's very good at supporting other people, but getting that support for me never really happened. So I was really fortunate for her.
[00:07:23] Viktoriia Miracle: Now that was a time to happen. So, and the last question I, that I ask always is that you get to fill in the blank and sound. It sounds like this. If you really knew me, you will know that I am like,
[00:07:46] Morgan Owen: solution focused, I know that sounds boring, but I'm always looking for the solution. I hate getting bogged down in the problems. I'm always just like, okay, cool. That happened. What are we going to do to move forward? I can't sit in that negative, negative space. So I'm always, you know, and that could be anything I'm always looking for how do we get the best outcome? And I think that, you know, you mentioned in my bio about. I don't take no for an answer pretty much.
[00:08:16] Viktoriia Miracle: And I think that's this, that, that's the entrepreneurial spirit for short. I know you have an awesome gift for us today very generous. So share with us what it is and where is your, where if people want to find you, where is the best place to find you?
[00:08:31] Morgan Owen: Yeah. So I'm offering, one of my penny purchase plan. So that's for anyone who's really keen to be able to purchase a property. But they're not really sure if they're ready, if they have enough money, you know, what they can afford, how to go about it. So they can sit with me and we can run through all of that.
[00:08:45] Normally that there's obviously a cost to that, but I'm, I'm offering that to you guys for, yeah. So that's my free gifts for you. You can find me on Insta. That's primarily where I find my, like, where I find myself, because I don't have time to be on every single platform. I don't know how people will do it.
[00:09:01] Viktoriia Miracle: So we are going to link everything in an episode page and if you're watching or listening to this episode, just scroll down and everything going to linked to the episode page, to go there to your show notes and all Instagram and everything that we've mentioned here, we'll link over there.
[00:09:15] Thank you so much for watching or listening to this episode. I would be grateful if you'll leave a review, like or subscribe, and I'll see you in the next one. Bye.
